Application form customization

What you can actually customize on the job application form: resume requirement, resume upload visibility, and pre-screening inclusion.

Where it lives

Per-job application settings live on the job's Job Application tab — open the job and switch to the tab.

The customizable toggles

The application form's customization is intentionally minimal — three toggles plus the screening questions configuration:

Resume is mandatory

When checked, the application can't be submitted without a resume file. Auto-enables Show resume upload field below.

Show resume upload field

When checked, the application form includes the resume-upload widget. When unchecked, the upload field is hidden — useful for application flows where you only want structured data, not files.

Include pre-screening questions in application form (includePrescreening)

When checked, the screening questions you've assigned to the job appear on the public application form. When unchecked, the screening questions still exist on the job but aren't shown to applicants on apply (useful when you intend to send them as a separate post-apply survey instead).

Screening questions (separate)

Pre-screening questions are managed alongside but separate from these toggles. Click Add Pre-Screening Questions on the same tab to pick from your library or add new ones inline. See Setting up screening questions.

Default fields on every application

Even when not configurable, every application form captures core candidate info — name, email, phone — so candidates can be created. These aren't customizable on / off via the application settings UI in the product.

Customizing further with screening questions

Most "I want this on the form" needs are best served by adding a screening question. Question types include text, multiple choice, file upload, etc. — see Setting up screening questions. Toggle Include pre-screening questions in application form on to ensure they actually surface on the form.

Tips

  • Make resume mandatory for most roles — it's the strongest signal you have.
  • Turn off Show resume upload field only for very specific flows (e.g. an internal-referral form).
  • If you want every applicant to answer 1–2 critical questions, mark them mandatory in the screening questions library and ensure Include pre-screening questions in application form is on.
