Why can't I see this menu? (permissions)

When CVViZ hides a feature you expect to see, it's usually a role / permission issue.

If you can't see a menu item, page, or action that a teammate has — it's almost always a permission issue. CVViZ hides UI based on your role and the per-feature permissions assigned to that role. This article explains how that works and how to figure out what's missing.

How visibility works in CVViZ

Two layers gate UI:

  1. Role — every user has one role. Some menus are visible only to admin or super admin users.
  2. Permission tokens — finer-grained flags assigned per role. If your role doesn't include the right token, the matching UI is hidden.

Together, this means: even if a feature is enabled on the account, an individual user may still not see it unless their role grants access.

Step 1 — Confirm what role you have

  1. Open Settings → Profile. Your role is shown alongside your name and email.
  2. If only Profile is visible in your Settings menu, your role doesn't include Open Settings — that's the most common reason "the whole Settings menu" looks empty.

Step 2 — Ask an admin to check your permissions

Admins can see every role's permission set under Settings → Users & RolesRoles tab:

  1. Find the role assigned to you.
  2. Open it — every per_* permission is shown as a checkbox. Toggling one updates everyone with that role.
  3. Save. The user has to refresh the browser for the new permission to take effect (the menu is rendered from cached permissions).

If you'd rather not change a shared role, the admin can clone it, edit the clone, and reassign you.

Step 3 — Account-level features (separate from permissions)

Some menus are gated by what's enabled on the account, not just your role. Even an admin won't see them if the feature isn't on the plan:

  • Webhooks needs the API add-on at Settings → Billing → Add-ons.
  • People Search credits / contact reveal need a plan that includes them.
  • Advanced Parsing Credits only show in Billing when the feature is enabled for your account.
  • Multiple Domains (extra sender domains) needs the MDA add-on.
  • Custom careers domain setup needs the CNAME add-on.
  • Trial / free plans hide features that are paid-only.

The Available Add-ons section in Settings → Billing shows what could be turned on with a top-up.

Step 5 — Permission changes don't take effect

Permissions are loaded into the browser at sign-in. If an admin changed your role while you were already logged in:

  1. Sign out and sign back in.
  2. Or hard-refresh (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+R) on any page; the menu rebuilds from updated permissions.

If you still don't see the new feature after re-login, the change didn't save — ask the admin to re-open the role and confirm the checkbox is set.

Open the help widget at the bottom-right of any CVViZ page. For what to include in a bug report or message, see Getting help and reporting issues.

When you reach out about this, please include:

  • Your work email and the role you have.
  • Which menu / feature you can't see.
  • Whether an admin has confirmed your role's permissions.
  • A screenshot of what you see (so we can tell which UI state you're in).
