Setting up screening questions
Build reusable screening questions and attach them to your job application form.
What screening questions do
Screening questions are extra fields candidates fill out when applying. CVViZ stores them as a reusable library β you build a question once, then attach it to as many jobs as you want.
Common uses:
Capture structured info you'd otherwise have to chase by email (years of experience, salary expectation, notice period).
Filter unqualified applicants automatically based on answers.
Map answers directly to candidate database fields so they auto-populate the candidate profile.
Two places to manage them
Library β Settings β Screening Questions. The full list of every screening question your workspace has, with CRUD.
Per-job β open the job and go to the Job Application tab; pick from the library or add new questions inline.
The library page
Page header: Screening Questions β "Create custom questions for job application forms". Click Add Question in the top-right to create a new one.
Columns
Type β the answer type (single-choice, multi-choice, text, numeric, date, file upload, etc.). The exact list is loaded dynamically from your workspace's static data.
Question β the question text.
Database Mapping β if set, the answer auto-fills a candidate database field (e.g. "Notice Period", "Current CTC"). This is the behind the scenes.
Mandatory β flagged with a warning icon when required.
Default β flagged with a star icon. Default questions are pre-suggested when you set up a new job.
Actions β Edit Question, Delete Question.
Creating a question
From the library page, click Add Question.
Pick the answer type.
Enter the question text (rich text supported).
Optionally pick a Database Mapping field β if you want the answer to populate the candidate profile.
Toggle Mandatory if it must be answered.
Toggle Set as Default if it should be auto-suggested on new jobs.
Save.
Adding screening questions to a job
Open the job and go to the Job Application tab.
Click Add Pre-Screening Questions. A modal titled "Add Pre-Screening Questions" opens with the subtitle "Select questions to add to your job application".
Use the search box ("Search questions by keyword...") and the filter chips:
Database Fields β only questions mapped to a database field.
Required β only mandatory questions.
Default Questions β only questions marked as default.
Tick the questions you want and click Add Questions.
Or click New Question in the modal to create a fresh one without leaving the job.
Database mapping
This is one of the most useful features. When a question is mapped to a database field (e.g. "Notice Period"), the candidate's answer auto-populates the matching field on their profile β no manual data entry. Map common questions like:
Current CTC / Salary Expectation
Notice Period
Years of Experience
Current Location
Work Authorization status
Best practices
Keep it short. 3β5 questions is plenty. Long forms drop application completion rates.
Don't ask what's already on the CV. CVViZ parses years of experience, location, and skills automatically.
Map to database fields wherever possible β saves manual data entry and improves reporting.
Set good defaults. If a question applies to most roles, mark it Default so it's pre-suggested when creating new jobs.
Avoid sensitive questions that could create legal risk in your region (age, marital status, religion, etc.).
